The bombs in the heads of many young people are still ticking and we urgently need to do something about it.
The project idea was created by a group of young people from the EYNCRIN, as an ad-hoc reaction to a recent case of youth radicalisation of a student from Plovdiv who was planning a terrorist attack at his school at the end of June 2019. The fact that Bulgarian youth could be subjected to radicalisation has been overlooked for years, as it was believed that those problems affect only the colonial countries in Europe. Now, the latest cases of youth radicalisation have proven that it was a matter of neglect of the real problems of the youth, who suffer marginalisation and exclusion and become easy prey of the radicalised groups. It became evident that neither formal nor non-formal education have been available to address the youth extremism in the country as it has never been considered a serious national or regional priority in Bulgaria. We believe that the youth workers still need to learn how to address the persistent forms of cultural stereotypes and structural discrimination. With our project we want to empower them with skills to address those problems and equip youth leaders and youth workers with skills to address them in their field work on radicalism prevention with the young people in their communities.
ICDialogue4Youth has a pan-European scope providing a youth response to the problems of terrorism and youth violent extremism as growing concern all over the world. European youth organizations acknowledge the need to prevent youth ending up on the margins of society and embracing violent behaviours and ideologies. Our project unities youth workers who are in search of youth work tools that can successfully tackle the hatred that is spreading within an increasing group of young European citizens. The ICDialogue4Youth project emphasises the importance of combating hate speech, empowering civil society, working with communities, supporting educators and educational institutions, youth work and promoting common values and inclusive education.
